Biodiesel Implementation and Outreach Project

Mission Statement: Empower community stakeholders to champion social and environmental stewardship by demonstrating that switching to biodiesel is a feasible solution for sustainable transportation in their community.
Research
- Case studies of recent similar efforts
- Feasibility analysis
Implementation
- Facilitate and coordinate 3 schools switching to biodiesel for a minimum trial period of 4 years
- Fundraising to help offset the additional costs of using biodiesel (B20)
- Local businesses donate money to offset their carbon footprint and demonstrate their commitment to “greening” the community
- Class sponsorship of project and small scale fundraising initiatives
- Private foundation match of money raised by local community
Outreach
- Incorporate biodiesel into high school environmental studies curriculum
- Students as project stewards
- Biodiesel “switch” as experiential learning opportunity to explore local impacts of and response to global climate change (biology, environmental science/ecology, physics, mathematics, history, geography, etc)
- Biobus II site visit and workshop
Stimulate local awareness of and demand for biodiesel supply
